Bernice Paolozzi is transforming the two-storey property in Portamack County Dublin.

The house was rated as G and a series of improvements aims to improve this to at least a B.

Ms Paolozzi claims while Ireland’s new builds are green, renovations are not.

To show how properties can be renovated in a green way Ms Paolozzi is transforming the three-bedroom property into a what she hopes will be a ‘flagship’.

She said: “This is a unique prototype, because never before in Ireland has it been done on a renovation.”

She argues it was the ideal opportunity to introduce new materials such as Knauf Ecose, a new glass and rock material recently launched into the Irish market.

The house also uses high thermal efficiency reflective membranes from DuPont cutting the energy use in the building.
