BP rebranded in Greenpeace protest

Two activists from Greenpeace have breached security at BP's London head quarters to rebrand the company as 'British Polluters'.

The action was in protest over BP’s investments in tar sands and the handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil leak.

The pair struck yesterday (May 20) as they believed the firm’s chief executive Tony Haywood would be in the capital for a board meeting.

The two climbers, Ben Stewart, 36, and Jens Loewe, 41, said their logo which rebranded the firm British Polluters and added leaking oil ‘better suits their dirty business’.

In a statement they said: “We think their logo needs a makeover to better suit a company that invests in tar sands and other unconventional oil sources like deep water oil.

“We reckon a company that invests in tar sands – the dirtiest oil there is – needs something other than a nice green flower as their brand identity.”

However, Mr Haywood did not get to the see the protest in person as he chaired the meeting via video phone from the states, where he overseeing efforts to stop oil pouring into the Gulf of Mexico.
