The Conservative Lib Dem coalition Government are due on Wednesday (June 9) to end plans to charge residents for amounts of waste thrown out – the so called pay as you throw tax.
Secretary of state for communities and local government, Eric Pickles, is expected to scrap the plans of the former Labour government in favour of a reward for recycling scheme.
Conservatives ministers have, in the past, heaped praise on a scheme in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead which launched in June last year.
The scheme offers vouchers in exchange for recycling to residents for local shops or chains including Marks and Spencer.
More details are expected to be announced this week by Mr Pickles, who has previously suggested ‘incentivising’ the public over recycling.
