The country’s Government fears many more people will die as it predicts more extreme weather from today (August 2), which will last all week.

The country’s president Asif Ali Zardari is due to begin an official state visit to the UK tomorrow (August 3), however that must now be in doubt as the death toll is only likely to rise.

Further rains are predicted today with regions including the Punjab and Sindh having extreme flood warnings in place.

A spokesman said: “A fresh monsoon low pressure area has developing over the Bay of Bengal and over the weekend was over central parts of India.

“This weather system is due to move towards Pakistan and approach our areas today (August 2) affecting Sindh, Punjab, Kashmir, eastern parts of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and eastern parts of Balochistan would receive monsoon rains.”
