New eco website to grow green business

The Low Carbon Entrepreneurs website is the brainchild of the Challenge Europe Project – a British Council climate change programme.

Andrea Carroll, one of the five founders of the new website launched last Friday (August 13), said: “This is an information portal that helps entrepreneurs explore the commercial possibilities of low carbon technologies.

“It provides an overview of the sector and provides links to more detailed information on funding and networking opportunities.

“Our goal is for the website to be a ‘one-stop-shop’ of information for would-be and existing entrepreneurs.”

The website provides information for entrepreneurs starting new businesses in the emerging green economy.

Its launch was marked with a networking event in The Greenhouse, Dublin, which featured speakers from the British Council, Scandinavian and Irish business.

Along with Ms Carroll, founder of Arc Sustainability, the founders include chartered engineer Joe Borza, Laura Duggan, and environmental executive for a Belfast-based company, Mark Bennett, green business officer at Dublin City Council and Tracy Godfrey, Green Agenda programme manager for Vodafone Ireland.

Ms Carroll says the website will make information more accessible to people about the opportunities in the green economy.

“We wanted to create a website that was specifically for people who were looking to develop businesses focused on green issues and low-carbon technologies,” said Ms Carroll.

She added: “Also, if someone has a business and they want to create another sideline to it that has a green element, the website is appropriate for them as well.”

The Challenge Europe Project is a three-year programme started by the British Council to encourage enterprising people from across Europe to create a project that makes a real difference to climate change.
