Thompson Ecology buys Unicomarine

Thompson Ecology has become the largest specialist in the UK ecology consultancy market after acquiring Unicomarine.

Unicomarine is a consultancy specialising in marine benthos. The company is involved in projects monitoring the aquatic environment, from the shore to deep sea, both in British waters and overseas.

The company has run a significant portion of the national marine biological analytical control scheme, which maintains and improves standards in marine biology.

Thompson Ecology managing director, Nancy Thompson said:

“Unicomarine is an excellent fit with Thomson Ecology. Our plan has always been to
cover all specialisms within ecology and therefore provide our clients with one point of contact.”

Unicomarine recently won a place on the three year offshore renewables framework contract operated by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Its clients include the Environment Agency, Natural England and the Centre for the Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas).

The acquisition makes Thomson Ecology the largest specialist in the UK ecology
consultancy market.

Thomson Ecology has continued to grow through the recession, in addition to this latest acquisition, has increased turnover by more than 25% and forecasts growth alone at more than 30%.
