Chris Huhne in China for talks

The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate, Chris Huhne, arrived in China yesterday (November 7) for talks on energy security and climate change.


He is part of the British delegation, headed by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, attending the UK China Summit and Economic and Financial Dialogue.

The environment is one of the subjects to be discussed by the delegation which will focus on boosting business and trade between the two countries.

The DECC Sectretary of State will discuss global energy security, energy technology and will explore ways the UK and China can collaborate on energy matters in a cost effective way.

Mr Huhne will meet with several key Chinese ministers and stakeholders, including Chairman Wang Guangtao of the Environmental and Resources Protection Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), low carbon policy experts and Chinese Energy companies.

Talking of his visit, Mr Huhne said: “My visit this week aims to ensure that China and the UK can build a strong partnership as we face common challenges together.”

China is the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases and a key player in international climate changes talks.
