edie.net’s consultancy service polls the customers of consultants to see what they think of the service and how they would improve what consultants offer.

When people were asked ‘are there any areas where you expect to have a new or greater need for consultancy services in the coming 12 months?’ the majority opted for carbon reduction.

With the new coalition government radically transforming the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) a focus on emissions in 2011/12 seems an obvious step.

People working in the environmental sector were struggling to get their heads around the CRC in its original form as a league table with the best performers able to make profits from cutting emissions.

Now the change, brought in under the new Government, makes the commitment a tax which sees all profits going to the treasury.

As a result big business will have to approach the CRC in a different way and will be looking to consultancy to help them get the best deals.

Emissions cuts were again not made mandatory at the latest round of COP talks in Mexico where governments have signed up to an agreement even more fudged than the 12 month old Copenhagen Accord.

But, the UK’s self appointed ‘greenest government ever’ will have to step up its game in 2011 if the UK’s going to reduce its carbon emissions.
