Last week around 3,000 homes were without water after the mains burst. Repairs were carried out to return the supply but problems occurred during the repairs.

The current problem is being blamed on air locks in the system after repairs were made to return the supply to the area.

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) report that 50 homes are still without supply.

A statement on their website read: “Air locks in the system have prevented supply returning to approximately 50 homes in the Annalong area.

“Out of the 4 reservoirs impacted by this repair, 3 are at satisfactory level and one remains critical.

“NI Water has engineers on site working to resolve these issues and hope to have supply returned later today.”

NI Water has been criticised repeatedly for its poor communication with customers, especially following water supply problems around the Christmas period, which resulted in the resignation of Chief Executive, Laurence MacKenzie in January.
