Mr Irranca-Davies spoke to edie and promised to roll back changes to the Feed In Tariff (FIT) if Labour were to come back to power at the next election.

Speaking at the Solar Hub, at what is arguably the world’s largest environmental show, Mr Irranca-Davies said: “I want the Government to think again about what it’s doing to FITs.

He said: “We had job creation across the UK and then all of a sudden the blocks are put on the steam.

“Now people have a fear the Government is not committed to renewables in a way that they said they were.

“I’d like to say to the Government think again, you’re being a bit premature, you’re using a sledge-hammer to crack a nut here.”

Mr Irranca-Davies said the initial investment offered under the FITs scheme will ‘kick start’ renewable projects, and without the funding the green economy is threatened.
