Harrison Ford supports eco Facebook game

A new Facebook game, Ecotopia, is being launched by independent games company Talkie and Conservation International (CI), supported by movie star Harrison Ford.

Ford is the vice president of the board of directors of CI, a not for profit organisation which works on conservation and sustainability projects around the world.

The environmental game invites players to ‘battle litterbugs, fight eco-enemies and create a personal utopia from the comfort of your computer chair’.

Players begin with a dirty, uninhabitable environment and must generate resources by completing immersive in-game missions.

Resources are then used to develop a sustainable city that players can customise to create their own utopia.

Players can also connect with their Facebook friends, sending gifts to each other and visiting neighbouring maps to perform helpful actions.

Players are rewarded for performing real-world acts of sustainability and incorporating them into their game.

Harrison Ford said: “As a passionate supporter of Conservation International’s work, I am excited that Talkie and CI are collaborating on Ecotopia.

“This game represents a refreshing new way to engage millions of people in addressing critical environmental issues and finding solutions that work for the wellbeing of humanity.”

Ecotopia will be free-to-play across a variety of social media platforms with the first version launching on Facebook April 4 2011.
