The online map and league table has been launched to reveal the take up of microgeneration technology across the UK.

Information for the tables has been taken from applications for Feed-in Tariff (FIT) accreditation by AEA to create its Microgeneration Index.

Changes to FITs have been attacked by renewables producers since climate change minister Greg Barker introduced.

Interestingly, for now at least, solar photovoltaic continues to grow with 84% rise to 48MW while wind capacity increased by 34% to 14.3 MW and hydro capacity increased by 27% to 9 MW.

The first two anaerobic digestion schemes have been installed, one at 140KW the other at 526KW.

Geographically Orkney had the highest installed capacity of more than 2MWe having registered two 900KW wind turbines and a number of smaller wind and solar systems, Cornwall has the next highest capacity at 1.6 MW, which is largely solar PV.

AEA’s knowledge leader for renewable energy, Colin McNaught, said: “Our analysis highlights total capacity continues to grow, reaching just under 72 MWs, a 64% increase since September. Although progress can be seen to be slow against policy expectations.”
