MWH wins Welsh Water surface water management project

The company has been involved with the project since 2007 and won a WIAA (Water Industry Achievement Award) for its SUDs and flood management initiatives.

The current framework agreement will be extended to 2015. The next phase of the project will involve removing or reducing current surface water and other non-foul flows in combined sewers.

Work will also be carried out to avoid or minimise such flows in the future and reduce the potential for serious flooding and pollution.

MWH account manager, Huw Jones, said: “In the short term our proposals are focused on helping the company to reduce flooding incidents.

“However, our longer-term plans will continue to build a sustainable approach to managing surface water.

“We recognise that Welsh Water and its customers in Wales seek two kinds of value for money – improvements to the level of service and a reduction in future bills. All our initiatives will be justified ultimately by these benefits.”
