The project at Woolmans Wood in Chatham, Kent will involve replacing 48.5 kilometres of mains and the company will be looking at innovative technology to tackle the work.

The company is considering techniques including ice pigging and pipe relining with an aim to ensuring water quality and reducing any potential impact on customers and the environment.

Morrison Utility Services currently provides mechanical and electrical maintenance services for Southern Water on its non-infrastructure assets such as clean and wastewater treatment works.

The company works across a range of sectors with utility companies, including gas, water and telecommunications on infrastructure and network maintenance and refurbishment.

It’s clients include Yorkshire Water, Thames Water and Cork County Council, in addition to Southern Water.

Morrison Utility Services Chief Executive, Charles Morrison, said: “Our expertise in mains network technologies means that we can offer a tailored solution to Southern Water’s requirements which ultimately delivers network enhancement without compromising safety or customer service.”

The project is expected to be completed by December 2012.
