Energy Networks Association chief executive, David Smith, addressed delegates the Energy Event at Birmingham’s NEC this week.

Mr Smith called for energy companies to make it ‘easier’ for its customers to save energy and reduce costs.

He said: “Customers hold the key to our energy future, we need our consumers to use energy more constructively, and to do that we need to make it easier for them.

“As an industry we know we have to adapt to the challenges of the future, but we also know that we have to take consumers with us.

“The energy revolution must begin in the home, on our own, we can improve things only so much.

“But for networks, with the right impetus to change how we engage with customers and by making them more aware of who we are we can persuade householders and industrial consumers to act in their own long-term interests.”
