BBC Good Food Show serves up zero waste pledge

The BBC Good Food Show is backing Scotland's drive to become a zero waste nation as it rolls into Glasgow's SECC this week (October 21).

The three-day event will be the first event of its size to work towards zero waste, by championing steps to ensure both exhibitors and visitors use resources in the most sustainable way.

Visitors to the show will enter on a recyclable carpet, recycling bins will provided throughout the venue and the organisations exhibiting will be asked commit to using recyclable materials and reducing their waste.

In addition, Zero Waste Scotland’s ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ team will be back at the show, providing hints and tips on how visitors can make the most of their food, cut down on food waste. Food recycling collections will also be undertaken throughout the duration of the show.

BBC Haymarket’s divisional director, Rachel Poletti-Gadd, said: “This is fun event for food lovers, but there’s a serious message underneath that we can all do a bit more to reduce food waste and help protect the environment. We will be encouraging exhibitors and visitors to recycle and minimise waste from the event.”

The BBC Good Food Show Scotland takes place from 21-23 October 2011.
