Aldi appoints DS Smith Recycling as its retail waste partner

Aldi, the leading discount retailer, has appointed DS Smith Recycling as its waste management partner to boost recycling rates across its 468 stores and seven distribution centres.

DS Smith Recycling will advise Aldi on new processes to maximise recycling levels and will also look at ways reduce waste and identify more sustainable disposal solutions as alternatives to landfill.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We’re committed to making landfill a last resort for our waste. In choosing DS Smith Recycling, we are able to combine expertise of the retail sector with knowledge of sustainable waste management.

“Together, we will be identifying new processes to enable us to reduce waste and recycle more, as well as achieve even greater reductions to our carbon footprint.”

DS Smith Recycling’s commercial manager Carwyn Gurmin added: “Aldi is a great example of a retailer dedicated to reducing its environmental impact and is making significant progress in making a difference.

“We are best placed to help Aldi deliver on its recycling commitments, having delivered similar solutions for some of the UK’s largest retailers and our network of recyclers means that nearly all the waste produced by Aldi can be reprocessed into new products.”
