Newport-based FootprintMatters2U took over Port Talbot-based IT Asset Disposal, which collects and repairs disused up to 1,000 tonnes of electronic equipment, such as computer, printers and photocopiers into raw materials for reprocessing a year, in October when it became insolvent.

As a result of the takeover, 14 jobs have been saved from IT Asset Disposal, which will now operate from the Newport site but under its existing name.

According to FootprintMatters2U, which offers waste management packages to business customers across the public and private sector, IT Asset Disposal was earmarked for acquisition due to the complementary nature of its business model.

The merger of the two companies is expected to support FootPrintMatters2U long-term goal of diverting more of its waste from landfill, while also boosting company growth.

Footprint Matters2U managing director Tim Hourahine said: “IT Asset Disposal has a similar business model to our own but with a more specific focus on re-use so this move can only complement the work we already do to divert waste from landfill.

“A string of contract wins over the past 12 months has meant we have been able to expand the business at a steady rate and are pleased to be supplementing our growth through this acquisition.”

Commenting on the takeover, IT Asset Disposal ex-owner Dan Dyer, said: “Had it not been for FootprintMatters2U stepping in to take us over, we would have had to close the doors before the end of November, losing all our valued staff.

“It was during the recent WRAP Cymru annual conference that we first met and realised that FootprintMatters2U were looking more to the re-use market, which is where IT Asset Disposal specialises.”
