The £750,000 SITA UK recycling facility at a former waste transfer station near Wolverhampton has the capacity to process more than 50,000 tonnes of road sweeping each year.

It is estimated that 98% of the waste will be recycled into materials such as sand, aggregate and compostable material for use in construction or to grit roads.

According to SITA UK regional processing area manager Chris Male, the site is expected to create two new jobs, with the potential for a further six.

He added: “The investment will allow us to recover recyclable materials from road sweeping waste that is currently landfilled. The recycled sand and aggregates can be reused by many of our customers in road construction, pipe bedding materials or blended with rock salt and used as grit on roads in the winter months.”
