The wind farm, which is planned for operation in June 2013, is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the needs of over 6,000 homes.
The company gained planning permission in 2009 to install the turbines at the Bilsthorpe Colliery in Nottinghamshire.
Construction of the access tracks and foundations began in late June and the turbines are expected to arrive in January 2013.
Owner, operator and manager of public sector infrastructure assets, John Laing, purchased a 100% share in the project in October 2011.
Ross McArthur, Head of Renewable Energy for John Laing, said: “It is extremely exciting for us that construction has started on the wind farm, not only because this is testimony to all the hard work that has been put into developing the scheme but also because this is a significant milestone in the development of the John Laing business in the renewable energy sector.”
The wind farm will also create employment and once up and running will provide a local community fund.
