Dutch EfW giant taps into UK’s emerging RDF supply

Dutch Recycling has been importing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from the UK for processing abroad since the start of this year through a partnership with Seneca Environmental Solutions, which operates a materials recovery facility (MRF) in Wembley, north London.

In the Netherlands, Dutch Recycling works in tandem with two utility firms Twence and Attero to supply its advanced incineration facilities with RDF exported primarily from Seneca’s operations, but also other facilities across the UK.

The company says it has at its disposal an incineration capacity of 2.4m tonnes a year, representing a 32% market share in the Netherlands and is keen to take advantage of what it sees as increasing possibilities for processing waste across national borders.

“This makes it an attractive proposal to recycle and convert waste into green energy in the Dutch high-efficiency waste-to-energy plants,” a statement from the company read.

“Even though the RDF in this case needs to be transported from the UK to the Netherlands, this is still better for the environment than landfilling waste in the UK.”

Next year sees the brand-new launch of Energy from Waste Expo under the SustainabilityLive banner – the UK’s only exhibition dedicated to energy-from-waste suppliers.

Taking place from 16-18 April at Birmingham NEC, it will cover the whole spectrum of waste-to-energy technologies, products and services.
