Resource efficiency starts with energy say business leaders

Energy has been voted the number one priority by business leaders in their efforts to improve resource efficiency throughout their organisations, according to exclusive research.

The study, commissioned by Temple Group in association with edie and Sustainable Business magazine, reveals that with energy prices rising and set to soar over the next five years the majority of responding businesses have identified energy as their organisations main focus for resource efficiency.

According to the findings from the report, Why are business leaders prioritising sustainability?, more than 80% of responding business leaders say they have or are taking action to reduce or optimise their energy use.

Business leaders also referred to the mandatory carbon reporting legislation, which comes into effect April next year, as a strong motivator for reducing their company’s energy consumption.

Despite economic pressures, the study found that sustainability remains firmly on business agendas with seven in 10 businesses considering it to be a priority business driver for success in 2012.
