Help us shape the Resource Revolution

As the waste industry looks to reposition itself to take advantage of a new, emerging circular economy, edie has joined forces with sister title LAWR magazine to bring you the Resource Revolution - an in-depth campaign that aims to act as a transformational catalyst for change.

With raw material scarcity and energy security driving radical new business models around recovery and reuse, the emergence of closed loop models are powering innovation at the highest levels.

Underpinning these resource flows are new dynamics around material optimisation and carbon economics as manufacturers, retailers and brand leaders seek to take greater ownership of their waste streams for commercial gain. The waste industry itself is being fundamentally reshaped as a result.

There are major risks and rewards for key players in this unfolding resource revolution and edie together with Local Authority Waste & Recycling (LAWR) magazine is ideally positioned to chart those changes by facilitating thought leadership, providing essential data and encouraging innovation.

The Resource Revolution campaign will run over six months and comprise a package of rich content and networking. High level outputs include exclusive market research that will map the emerging trends in transformational waste management and the challenges around future feedstock security.

The findings from this research will inform a series of high level viewpoints from key influencers in the waste-to-resource transition. These interviews, which will include representatives from Unilever, Coca Cola Enterprises and John Lewis Partnership will explore how brand leaders are spearheading circular economy models, and how traditional waste companies are reacting as a result.

One example where the resource revolution is already taking hold is in food waste, as companies start tapping into its nutrient-rich content and extracting closed loop value through recovered energy. LAWR will publish a special supplement looking at the key issues in this market, and how new entrants such as water companies are adding new dynamics into the mix.

The key themes, lessons and discussion points raised from the research, leader interviews and food supplement will then feed into an exclusive panel debate in front of a select, engaged audience to examine the impacts and opportunities a post-revolutionary waste sector presents.

The grand finale to our campaign will be the launch of a new awards scheme – the Resource Revolution Awards. These awards will recognise and champion game-changing innovation in modern waste management. They will specifically look to reward trail-blazing projects that offer new ways of working towards a circular economy.
