The first week of the year was a big one for the auto industry, as new figures highlighted the growth of low-emission vehicles in the UK and a massive announcement by Toyota promised to continue that upward trajectory.
The renewable energy industry also got a couple of bumps, with the announcement of a massive floating solar farm in Japan, and the release of new figures highlighting the growth of wind energy in the UK.
But, as ever, there were reasons for pessimism. The Guardian newspaper got hold of some unpublished figures from the Environment Agency predicting a gloomy future for UK houses at flood-risk.
