CV show gears up with municipal focus

There's going to be plenty of municipal action at this year's Commercial Vehicle Show, which is becoming increasingly relevant to the waste management industry

This year’s Commercial Vehicle (CV) Show will be hosting a dedicated municipal, waste management and recycling zone which will house some of the biggest names in the RCV market.

Dennis Eagle, Geesink Norba, Heil Europe and Faun will all be at the event, which takes place from 25-27 April at Birmingham NEC. The specialist zone will be housed in Hall 2 – the show itself spans five halls in total, and encompasses the Automative Trade Show (ATS).

Growing interest

“We’ve been watching the CV Show for two years and we’re very impressed with the way it has developed,” says Norman Thoday, commercial operations director at Dennis Eagle. “When the organisers proposed a specialist municipal and RCV area, under cover, we were very interested. The CV Show has become increasingly relevant to the waste management industry.

“The big stands for these major refuse truck-makers will be the foundation of this new business zone,” says Richard Gibbs, CV Show and ATS chairman. “We’re confident this area will prove a ‘must-see’ for the growing number of local authority and municipal contractor visitors, who’ll find they can cover all their transport needs at one event.

“It’s also good to see other municipal and local authority suppliers, like Terberg Matec, SFS and Noblet, planning to take advantage of the terrific sales opportunities on offer.”

This year the event will see over 600 exhibitors, with big improvements to the show layout. Designed to save time for visitors and enable exhibitors to meet more buyers, there will be specialist sector groups around the 90,000m2 of the original NEC halls. One such is the inclusion of fork lift trucks and lifting equipment, with almost every supplier to the UK market present in Hall 5, adding a new dimension to the event.

“We’ve specialist areas around the show, to help visitors find the people they want to meet,” says Robin Dickeson, CV Show’s press officer .

Keeping Britannia cool

The CV Show’s Cool Pavilion this year is nearly 30 per cent bigger than last year, making it the largest single display of cold chain products in Europe. Over 20 exhibitors in Hall 3a will show vehicles, products and services for all aspects of temperature-controlled transport.

With its successful skills centre enlarged this year, the event will share the emphasis on training and careers in the automotive industry. “This will give a very effective backdrop against which component-makers can show off their training programmes for their own staff and for installers,” says Gibbs.

“The entire industry faces a skills shortage on one hand, and needs to cope with the demands of increasingly complex component technology on the other, so this will offer a great opportunity for firms to show how they can help with the wide-ranging advice that is increasingly in demand.”
