Watertight protection

Latest security devices help water companies to safeguard their property and facilities from unauthorised access, and to protect the public.

Abloy Security has developed a range of security solutions designed to meet the specific standards established in the code of practice agreed by the UK’s water utility companies, and to address the issues of crime and public security.

Water companies are using these latest solutions to secure perimeter fencing and water covers to safeguard sites from unauthorised access.

Safeguarding a water utility involves protecting the property and facilities against attempted security breaches and vandalism, often on a site situated in a remote location and exposed to extreme weather conditions. As a result, robust, reliable and versatile locking equipment is required.

Robin Rice, managing director at Abloy, says: “Having recognised the potentially devastating consequences for water companies, should any materials or pollutants enter the water, we have developed an extremely robust range that provides unparalleled levels of security to safeguard against any unauthorised access and withstand harsh environments.”

With tough bodies to enhance mechanical strength, improved drill protection, hardened steel housings and boron steel shackles, Abloy’s PL300 Series padlocks combined with its Protec two-way mechanism provide maximum resistance against physical attack. To further increase security, there are hardened stainless-steel balls locking the shackle on both sides.

Additionally, the padlocks conform to the best-practice guidelines set out by the Loss Prevention Certification Board.

The latest range has been developed to offer superior corrosion resistance, achieved by a surface treatment applied using an environmentally friendly plating system, highly apt for water companies, where padlocks are continuously subjected to harsh natural environments.

When installed with a master key system, Abloy key cylinders and locks offer a large range of of lock types and key combinations, making it an ideal system to secure a site with numerous outhouses and workshops.

The convenience and versatility of master key systems mean that large-scale multi-site service providers requiring locks to be opened by several people can protect their properties while providing high levels of access.

These systems can also be integrated across different lock types, such as cylinders and furniture locks, so that authorised personnel can access

specific areas without requiring multiple sets of keys.
