Boost for battery recycling

Mercury Recycling has launched Batterysafe, a battery recycling service to complement its Lampsafe lamp recycling service.

The service includes all types of batteries and provides recycling in compliance with current legislation.

Mercury’s managing director, Bryan Neill, said: “All waste batteries are classified as hazardous waste, and disposing of them responsibly requires specialist skills and equipment.

For example, within the broad categories of single use and rechargeable batteries, there are over a dozen different chemistries. And these need to be identified and sorted accurately as each battery chemistry requires a different recycling process.”

Mercury tailors each contract to meet the needs of the user, reflecting their turnover of batteries, and the company provides a full end-to-end service including all of the necessary paperwork for a comprehensive audit trail and to meet hazardous waste regulations.
