The Mission Possible campaign empowers and inspires sustainability professionals to achieve a sustainable future for their business. This vision was brought to life last month at edie Live 2018, where visitors were encouraged to post a new commitment on a dedicated ‘Mission Possible Pledge Wall’.

Starting with a blank canvas, the Pledge Wall was gradually filled over the two days, with a host of tangible actions written on post-it notes and stuck onto the wall under one or more of the five campaign pillars: Energy, Resources, Mobility, The Built Environment, and Business Leadership.

Every pledge was made on behalf of an organisation, and the results were comprehensive and wide-ranging; from commitments to achieve further alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to new actions to drive internal engagement on sustainability, and pledges to new energy, waste or water reduction targets.

A selection of some of best Mission Possible pledges:

“Move to 100% renewable energy by 2020” – Mulalley & Co (construction)

“Set science-based targets to work towards” – Santander (banking), through SMS Plc (consultancy)

“Have 200 Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicles by August 2019”  We Know Group (travel services)

“Reduce our building emissions by 15% over the next five years” – Four Seasons Healthcare (health and social care)

“Reduce our environmental impacts by 2% in the current academic year and subsequent years across the following: Carbon, gas, electricity, water, paper, waste and business mileage”  Hull College Group (higher education)

“Develop a network of sustainability champions through the business to embed the principles of circularity into our culture” – Helistrat (consultancy)

“Challenge all of our European offices to move to more sustainable practices – using our London office as a great example”  Innocent Drinks (drinks manufacturer)

What happens next…

edie is keen to turn these new ambitions into actions. As such, we will be closely following the Mission pledges that have been made so far, with a new editorial content series soon to be unveiled which will chart the progress of these companies on their respective missions.

We will also continually monitor and report on the efforts of our publisher, Faversham House Group, which has made its own Mission Possible pledge to reduce direct (Scope 1) emissions by 10% over a five-year period (baseline year to be established in 2018).

Now, it’s YOUR turn. edie readers are being urged to follow suit and make a new sustainability commitment on behalf of your organisation. No Mission Possible pledge is too small or too ambitious to be made – as long as it is a new, tangible action that will help your organisation on its mission to achieve a sustainable future.

Whether you are looking to reduce impacts, improve operational efficiencies, or drive success through new collaborations and engagement opportunities – the Mission Possible campaign is an ideal platform to showcase your pledge to the world.

If you would like to make a new ‘Mission Possible Pledge’ for your business, please post your pledge as a comment at the bottom of this article.
