Presented by edie’s senior reporter Sarah George, this episode of edie’s long-standing Sustainable Business Covered Podcast is hosted to mark the end of the team’s COP26 Focus Week – a dedicated week of content including exclusive interviews, in-depth reports and insightful opinion pieces, all about seizing the opportunity of the crucial UN climate talks which are being held in Glasgow this November.

Hosted in association with our Focus Week partners Grosvenor, EY and the Woodland Trust along with our Countdown to COP26 Festival headline partner, O2, this week has brought together hundreds of sustainability, energy and resource efficiency professionals, as well as activists, NGOs and executives.

This podcast episode provides an opportunity to reflect on the whirlwind week while keeping focus on the conference in less than eight weeks’ time, which is set to be the most important iteration of COP since the Paris Agreement was ratified in 2015.

Our first guest for this episode is the Energy & Climate Change Intelligence Unit’s analyst Jess Ralston. An expert in domestic green policy, Ralston provides an overview of key announcements from Whitehall this year and outlines what can be done to close remaining policy gaps.

Going from a national to a local approach, the second guest is Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) green lead Steve Connor. He discusses topics including public engagement, climate adaptation and the innovative financial models needed to mobilise change on the ground.

The third and final guest, Boston Consulting Group’s Konrad von Szczepanski, helps edie take a look at how the net-zero transition is affecting the metals and mining sector. This is an industry acutely exposed to physical climate risks and a historic contributer to emissions, but a sector which must expand to meet the growth of sectors such as renewable electricity generation and electric vehicles.

You can recap on all of the other COP26 Focus Week content here.
