With many edie readers still working remotely, this ongoing series of video interviews keeps you connected to the inspirational business leaders who are continuing to drive sustainability and champion climate action from their own homes.

#SustyTalk is all about keeping edie’s loyal readers connected to sustainable business leaders across the world, whilst reminding us all that sustainability and climate action must go on through the current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

The latest episode sees edie’s senior reporter Sarah George speaking with SC Johnson’s chief communications officer, Alan VanderMolen.

VanderMolen gives an update on the company’s efforts to reduce its plastics footprint and tackle the global plastic pollution problem more widely. SC Johnson forged a partnership with the Ellen Macarthur Foundation on the issue back in 2019. The overarching aim of the Foundation’s Global Partner scheme is to drive a culture-wide shift to a truly circular economy, in which no resources are sent to landfill or left to pollute nature.

As well as discussing work being done in-house, VanderMolen touches on the need to engage suppliers, other businesses and the general public. To this latter point, SC Johnson is currently hosting an exhibition on ocean plastics in London, called The Blue Paradox. This event is running through to this coming Monday (27 September).
