Business Briefs: solar power, an aerosol monitor, and ultraviolet disinfection

In this week’s UK Business Briefs, BP wins China’s largest on-grid PV supply contract, a new portable aerosol monitor, and ultraviolet disinfection units which will be included in the Royal Air Force’s upgraded Nimrod patrol aircraft.

BP has announced that, in partnership with Kenuo JKD, it has been selected to supply a solar photovoltaic on-grid power system to Shenzhen’s Citizen Centre, a new building providing municipal facilities including a museum, a library, an exhibition centre and conference facilities. The US$7.5 million (£5.1 million) project will consist of solar roof cladding with the potential to generate one megawatt of electric power.

Quantitech, based in Milton Keynes, are marketing the Grimm SMPS+C (Sequential Mobility Particle Sizer and Counter), intended to benefit atmosphere researchers, local authorities, motor manufacturers, and anyone else interested in studying or monitoring sub-micron aerosols and particulates. The system is capable of size classifying particles from 900nm down to 5nm, and has up to three hours unattended operation through its internal battery power.

Finally, Canadian company International Water-Guard Industries Inc (IWG) has announced that it has received a supply contract for its NPS-A3 aircraft potable water treatment unit from Britain’s AIM Aviation for installation on Nimrod Long Range Patrol aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force. The contract is for 16 water treatment units, and is IWG’s first order for equipment to be installed on British military aircraft.
