Construction powers ahead with materials recycling plant

The UK is taking big strides in encouraging the recycling and reclamation of construction waste, and with measures such as the Aggregates Levy and the Landfill Tax, plus the impact of environmental concerns; the recycling of materials is now seen as not just good sense, but good business.

The SED Site Clearance Zone offers visitors the opportunity to see not just the latest crushers, hammers, pulverisers and screens, but also, the chippers, shredders and other green waste kit.

CGCS Midlands is a familiar exhibitor in the SED Site Clearance Zone – this year the company will be showing and demonstrating the new SD1520 Shredder – it will be the first time that this machine has been shown. The 520hp SD1520 is designed for recycling wood waste and green waste with a 70-80 tonne ph throughput. This particular machine is rather unique in that 60% of the rota shaft is the screen area. Various sizes of product can be achieved by changing screen size.
CGCS is also bringing along two versions of Screen Machine – the 55D and the Might. Screen Machine is the largest manufacturer of portable shredder/screening plants in North America.

A brand new company exhibiting for the very first time at SED within the Site Clearance Zone is First Grade Recycling. The company is launching a new version of the screen Trommel 2040m, which is a mobile version of the 2040s.

The Trommel 2040m is designed for the screening of construction and demolition waste, separating soil from hardcore. It has a vibrating feed hopper, which delivers the waste into the barrel of the screen. The barrel is fitted with 1/2-inch thick punched plate screens. The fines simply drop out the bottom of the barrel into a bunker below. The oversize material is delivered out the back of the barrel, where picking conveyors, blowers and other separation equipment can be added to clean up the oversize material.

Finlay Hydrascreens is also showcasing two new machines at this year’s show. SED sees the UK launch of the 694 Supertrak, which is an innovative four-way, split tracked screening unit. Applications include screening of crushed aggregate, sand and gravel, coal, and screening of demolition material.

Also from Finlay and on demonstration is the 883 Reclaimer, which is the latest product in the 800 range. The Finlay 883 is designed specifically for the recycling industry. Applications include quarry waste, construction and demolition debris, topsoil and aggregates. Processing at a rate of up to 500 tonnes per hour, the key to the 883 is its adaptability, whatever the application or industry.
The final UK new product launch by Finlay but by no means the least is the TC15 Sand Master, a one-cyclone unit used for sand washing.

CRMS Machinery Group, Europe’s largest Case construction equipment dealer, returns to SED with a product line that is considerably expanded with a number of new products and a totally new product line.

One of the key attractions on the stand is the STA range of soil and asphalt compactors for which CRMS is the sole UK importer. Manufactured in the Czech Republic, the range includes single drum rollers from 7 to 25 tonnes, tandem rollers from 1.7 to 17 tonnes and pneumatic-tyred rollers from 9.9 to 24 tonnes.
Another notable machine at the show is the Bagela asphalt recycler. This innovative machine offers a throughput of 7 to 10 tonnes per hour and can convert waste asphalt and road planer arising into a saleable product for reduced dumping costs and lower environmental impact.

New to the market and being introduced at SED is Kendall Machinery’s Wildcat 516 Cougar Trommel Screen, which is suitable for screening topsoil, aggregate, compost, woodchip, C&D and more. Kendal’s new S16.00D EuRec is also being also be launched at this year’s show. This heavy-duty slow speed shredder has been developed from the Z75 model, and can cope with the wide range of abrasive materials found within MSW, whilst still having high outputs for a machine of its size.

Yet another Kendall launch is the new Bandit 65EW which combines ease of access for service and maintenance, with a simple to operate design. The 300 mm wide rollers allow irregularly shaped material easy access to the chipping blades, making the 65EW a true 7 inch class machine.

Visitors to the Kendall stand will also see the 560 Hp 3680 Beast Recycler which can process stumps, pallets, green waste, and construction waste amongst others at 30-100 t/hour into a finely ground chip or mulch on the first pass.
Kendall is showing equipment for waste reduction, recycling, landscaping, forestry or plant hire at its stand in the Site Equipment Zone.

Erin Systems is exhibiting its complete line of products including the largest Fingerscreener on the market designed to maintain its highly aggressive action under the heaviest and most challenging direct-feed materials such as aggregate, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, landfill mining and quarry overburden. The 20 x 6 inch screenbox ensures accuracy of separation. The Starscreener model, which uses specially designed long-lasting rubber stars mounted on a series of high speed rotating shafts to separate and size mostly organic material, is also on display in the Site Clearance Zone.

The company is demonstrating The Trident screener designed for the finest screening applications such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, coal and topsoil. The screenbox combines two equal decks, 12 long x 5 inches wide that give you more productivity especially with fine products. The bottom deck has an extra 5° angle built-in for increased screening efficiency.

Finally, Erin is showing the Powercrusher Jaw and Impactor crushers. The PC Jaw 1265J is demonstrating its unique Quattro jaw action that crushes product throughout the full depth of the jaw; pre-crushing in the higher portion of the chamber and fine crushing in the lower portion of the chamber increasing productivity considerably.

Extec Screens and Crushers Ltd aims to put on a good show with its C12 Tracked Jaw Crusher being put through its paces in the demo area as well as on static display. Also on static display is the C10 Tracked Jaw Crusher. This compact self-propelled machine brings the features of the Extec C-12 to the smaller quarry or demolition site where operating space is limited yet high performance required. Applications for both machines include rock, asphalt and concrete crushing.

Also on the Extec stand in the Site Equipment Zone is the S3, S4 and S5 Track Mounted Screening, Scalping and Stockpiling system. Also on show are the Robotrac, a tracked, mounted scalping screen, and the Impactor, a large heavy-duty tracked crusher.

OM Officine Meccaniche is a specialist in mobile machines for pulverising, sifting and the treatment of inactive materials deriving from recycling and excavation. At SED 2004, on the Site Clearance Zone, the company is presenting its new OMtrack ARGO jaw-breaker. ARGO has been designed to fit on the road and respect the weight limit of 30 tons. Fitting time does not take longer than 15 minutes.

The machine has the new FP105 jaw-breaker, that is equipped with a no stop system device (OM patent) that guarantees the integrity of the breaker itself in view of breakable bodies and allows to hydraulically and continuously vary the pieces being ejected without having to act mechanically.

Heathway is once again exhibiting the Red Rhino, the British built mobile crushing machine, which is robustly designed and engineered for the construction, demolition, landscape and hire markets. The Red Rhino crusher can be supplied with a tracked, trailer or skid based chassis. The company is located in the Site Equipment Zone.

Anross Ltd is once again exhibiting its range of Segregator buckets in the Site Clearance Zone. Two sizes of the bucket are being demonstrated, fitted to 7.5 tonne and 20 tonne excavators.

New developments and enhancements in the power and transmission components of the small and mid-range buckets have been introduced since SED 2003 and these are incorporated into the buckets on display. A new, fully automated, control system for bucket operation will also be demonstrated. The new system requires the minimum of input from the operator.

Blue Machinery will be showing the Powerscreen Warrior 1400, a Doppstadt high speed Wood Chipper model AK430, a City Skid Crusher, hitches from Hills Engineering and a backhoe compost turner in the Site Equipment Zone.

Global Plant is introducing the new Guidetti Midi Tracked Crusher at the show. Loading of the crusher is by a 3-10 tonne excavator or equivalent and it will handle material from rubble to natural stone, glass and other inert materials. Discharge is by conveyor into stockpiles or straight into dumpers or trucks.
The new Midi Crusher with compact dimensions of length 4.2, width 1.6 and height of 2.2 metres, is easily transportable on non-articulated vehicles.

The construction plant and materials handling plant manufacturer, JCB, which offers a wide range of machinery designed for the waste sector, is launching a series of new models to the UK market at SED.

On show are: the New Generation JS130 tracked excavator, the mini backhoe loader, the 8080 midi excavator, the 535-140 Loadall telescopic handler, a new range of access platform installations and the 722 ADT (articulated dump truck) – now in production.

The mini-backhoe, set to go into production with a 20 hp diesel engine, is aimed particularly at groundcare, gardening, landscaping electrical, plumbing and building contractors in the UK, European and USA markets, in addition to tool hire and rental firms or DIY stores offering a rental facility.

The show sees the UK debut of the 535-140 Loadall telescopic handler – a 3.5 tonne payload, 13.8 metre total lift height machine to compete at the high specification end of the growing 13-14 metre sector of the market.

On the waste handling front EuroEjectors Ltd is showing a safe and efficient solution for the transportation of waste at SED, in the shape of trailers built using 4mm thick rolled Hardox 40 steel, where ejection employs a seven-stage Penta 700 Series hydraulic ram mounted to a sliding bulkhead. The rear door is also hydraulically operated and both operations can be carried out from inside the tractor unit. The Eurojectors are being shown in the Site Clearance Zone.

Vision Techniques, a specialist in the field of vehicle safety reversing systems, is exhibiting its latest VT45 TH budget-price CCTV system and a trailer based stand-alone ultrasonic proximity reversing system.

The latter is a completely new addition to the Vision Techniques ultrasonic range designed to provide cost effective solution for all semi-trailer operators reversing needs.

This system enables accurate and dependable distance measurement each time a reversing procedure is required. Visual displays can easily be mounted in any convenient place, to give clear colour sequenced warning of a closing distance.

Helping to keep sites clean is the wide range of sweeper collector products from MRE Multi Sweep which are being exhibited in the Site Equipment Zone. The Multi Sweep is a low cost solution offering high standards of cleanliness and adaptable to fit any forklift, telehandler, tractor, loader or skid steer loader. The company’s new Multi Sweep Model 425 for construction is being launched at the show.

Hippowash Ltd, designer and manufacturer of wheel washing systems, is introducing two new products. The Hippowash Junior addresses the need for an economic solution for the removal of light contaminants from wheels and chassis of road-going vehicles. The main benefits of this unit are its easy transportability to site and the speed of installation.

The second product is a new water clarifying system, the HB50ST, a product developed with Siltbuster using a patented system utilising lamella plate technology. This creates a large surface area within the main Siltbuster to increase notably the surface area for settlement.

On the environmental front, Air Spectrum Environmental Ltd, which designs and manufactures dust management systems, is showing its latest dust suppression products at SED 2004. The products, which include Soil Sement ®, Dustract ®, MoFoam ® and EnviroKleen ® have been used successfully in the USA for more than 28 years.
