Open University options reflect waste industry multi-disciplines

The multi-disciplinary nature of waste management is reflected in the Open University's environment technology programme, which teaches waste management in the wider context of its impact on people, resources and general environment.

Qualifications

The above courses can be used, along with other appropriate courses, to gain one of the Open University’s degrees, including the BSc (with Honours in Technology), BEng, MEng, and BSc or BA.

Open University graduates who have completed an appropriate course of study meet the academic requirements for corporate membership of CIWM.

Open University supported open learning

The flexible nature of the courses allows wastes management professionals to benefit in a number of ways, says the OU. The university offers a credit transfer scheme, whereby students may be able to claim credit for previous study, such as the HNC in Wastes Management, towards a degree, thus working towards satisfying the academic requirements of the CIWM. Students may use individual courses as a part of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and towards a Graduate Member’s Structured Training programme. Studying with the OU allows professionals to continue in employment, thus bringing their particular experience to bear on their academic course work.

The OU allows students to fit their study around work and other commitments. Students need not give up work and can fit their study to suit their own circumstances. The OU has taught over two million students, with more than 70% remaining in full-time employment.
