NGOs call for tax on kerosene

Airport residents & environmental NGO's have joined forces to campaign to control and reduce the local and global environmental impacts of airports and air travel.

NGOs across Europe have launched a call for an EU-wide kerosene tax and aviation charge. This comes as part of a ‘European Action Day on Aviation’ being held in 20 countries on November 6th/7th.

According to Paul de Clerck, coordinator of the ‘Right Price for Air Travel’ Campaign, from Milieudefensie (Friends of the Earth) in the Netherlands, “Air travel is the fastest growing contributor to global warming. All over Europe airport expansion plans wreck the lives of those living nearby. Our alliance is determined to find ways to control and reduce the environmental impacts of air travel which are growing at an alarming rate“.
