The Scottish Executive has denied a BBC report claiming that a decision has already been made to turn down a massive wind farm on the Isle of Lewis, in the Western Isles.

The BBC’s Gaelic news service, Radio nan Gaidheal, reported last week that Scottish ministers are “minded to refuse” the 181 turbine scheme, which would be one of Europe’s biggest wind farms if it goes ahead.

But a statement released by the government on Friday said: “No final decision has yet been taken and ministers are working towards finalising and announcing a decision in the near future.”

Campaigners claim the £500m project will do “irreversible damage” to an important wetland site.
