An inspection on May 25, 2005, found an illegal waste transfer station where waste was being stored, sorted and disposed of, located on the abandoned Ballyhill Road at Nutts Corner.

Samuel Maginty, trading as A1 Skips, was found to have also carried out earthworks to extend the site using controlled wastes.

He was fined £2,500 plus £103 costs, after he pled guilty to one charge of “treating, keeping and disposing of waste”.

He was charged under Article 4(1)(b) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

Other Northern Ireland residents recently fined for waste offences include Edward McCrea of Strabane and Brian Fox of Omagh.

Both offences related to breaches of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
