The overall winner of the European awards was the Danish company Novo Nordisk. This is the third successive win for Novo Nordisk. The joint runners-up were: Anglian Water, winner of the recent UK environmental reporting award, and Otto Versand of Germany. A commendation for stakeholder reporting went the UK’s Co-operative Bank, which earned a similar distinction in the British awards. A further commendation for SME environmental reporting went to Neumarkter Lammsbrau, of Germany.

The award is made each year by the leading accountancy bodies in Europe. The six sponsoring bodies are: ACCA, Foreningen af Statsautoriserede (Denmark), Institut des Reviseurs d’Entreprises/Instiuut der Bedrijfsrevisoren (Belgium), Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut van Registeraccountants (Netherlands), Ordre des Experts-Comptables (France) and Wirtschaftspruferkammer (WPK) (Germany). The awards were made at Imperial College by WPK President Dr Burkhard Hense, Jacqueline Aloisi de Larderel, United Nations Environment Programme, Director of Industry and Environment and ACCA President Michael Foulds.
