Older property to benefit from new energy efficiency scheme
Owners of older property have been urged to take advantage of Ireland's national insulation programme.
The government announced the Euro 100m insulation programme earlier this week, which will reduce heating bills by up to Euro 700 per year.
Kilkenny’s Green Party councillor Malcolm Noonan believes that households should be making preparations in advance in order to make the most of the scheme.
He told the Kilkenny Advertiser: “The scheme will open to the public in March, and I urge homeowners – particularly those with older homes and big energy bills – to register their interest now with Sustainable Energy Ireland.
“They should also think about arranging a Building Energy Rating assessment, which will highlight the type of work that will bring about the best cost and energy savings.”
The new scheme will complement the list of energy efficiency products approved for tax relief under the government’s Accelerated Capital Allowances (ACA).
Energy minister Eamon Ryan approved the first list of ACA approved products in October last year.
