Aberdeen City Council’s, Contracting Services Dept are responsible for the renovation of council houses within the area. They contacted Pakawaste to devise a solution to reduce waste volumes and related handling and transportation costs associated with the renovations.

The Pakawaste Rollpac has provided an ideal solution to the problems faced by Aberdeen City Council. The Rollpac compactor can reduce waste volumes by a ratio of up to five to one, and is ideal for ‘non’ compactable waste in open containers.

Bulky waste from the renovated houses, notably plasterboard, plastics, wood, metals and ceramics are deposited into a 25 cubic yard open container by fork lift truck. The Rollpac’s motorised roller suspended from its crane arm is then lifted and lowered into the container by its integral hydraulic cylinder. The heavy duty steel roller is set in motion rolling back and forth over the waste in the container. Specially designed steel teeth combined with the weight of the roller and crane arm, help to achieve the dramatic waste reduction of this heavy duty waste material.

Aberdeen City Council have been very pleased with the performance of the Rollpac and have been able to significantly reduce their waste transportation costs and environmental pollution. Before installation of the Rollpac approximately 2 tonnes of waste per container was collected, now however, payloads of approximately 8 to 9 tonnes are achieved. Using the Rollpac compactor has also enabled the council to keep their site clean and tidy, as waste can quickly and easily be deposited into the open container.

Rollpac compactors are ideal for reducing bulky waste and are already used on many civic amenity and heavy industrial sites throughout the UK. They are available with static, swivel or traversing options and can therefore be used to compact waste in more than one container if required.

In addition to the Rollpac compactor, Pakawaste also manufactures a range of portable, static and wheeled bin compactors for use by general industry and has already supplied such equipment customers in various sectors from retail to food manufacturing. Pakawaste also supplies a range of balers and shredders to companies across a broad industrial spectrum and is able to design bespoke systems to meet individual customer needs.
