Carbon neutral media production for all Bundesliga matches

Last updated: 14th September 2022

There is a new cooperation between the Deutsche Fussball Liga and Sky with the support of ClimatePartner. The German Bundesliga is now implementing a carbon neutral media production for all 612 Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga matches, as well as for the Relegation and Super Cup.

As announced end of July 2022, DFL, in close cooperation with media partner Sky, will initially offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the media production of the matches with the support of ClimatePartner, and will also work intensively on measures to consistently reduce emissions.

The selection of corresponding carbon offset projects, which will be supported by the DFL and Sky, will be made in consultation with ClimatePartner.

At the same time, the DFL subsidiary, Sportcast, which produces the basic signal for all matches for the national and international media partners, is analysing potential savings and is already working on a multi-stage reduction plan for their emissions.

The step towards carbon neutral media production follows essential measures taken by the DFL in recent months on the subject of sustainability, which are constantly being further developed and expanded.

Sky is also working intensively on the topic of climate action. The DFL media partner has set the goal of reducing their own carbon footprint and aim to reach net zero by 2030. Sky is not only reducing the emissions caused directly by the company, but is also looking at the entire value chain.
