Introduction to Managing Healthcare Waste

Last updated: 24th January 2021

Cloud Sustainability's short interactive course 'Introduction to Managing Healthcare Waste' provides an introduction to the safe and best practice management of healthcare wastes. The course is aimed at anyone in the UK involved with the management of healthcare waste, including those working in hospitals, surgeries, dental practices, pharmacies, residential homes and veterinary practices.

The course provides a fantastic foundation introduction for anyone with healthcare waste management responsibilities, and will be especially useful for those with operational responsibilities.  It helps users clearly understand how they should be handling, segregating and storing different healthcare wastes.
The course draws on guidance provided by the Department of Health on the Safe Management of Healthcare Waste.  It translates this information in a highly visual and engaging way to help users understand what actions they must take to meet their best practice and legislative requirements, as outlined within this guidance.
It includes a comprehensive introduction to healthcare waste segregation requirements and how to use the colour coded system to correctly segregate different healthcare wastes to ensure they are treated or disposed of appropriately.
The course also introduces the concepts of sustainable waste management and looks at why management of waste according to the Waste Hierarchy is important to consider when handling healthcare wastes.
