Reconomy and waste management software provider, Midsoft agree exclusive API partnership

Last updated: 3rd December 2020

Reconomy, the UK’s leading provider of outsourced waste management and recycling services has launched an exclusive and new API (application programming interface) developed in conjunction with the specialist software provider Midsoft.

The development of APIs is a key element of Reconomy’s ongoing digitisation strategy as the company seeks to automate more of its service provider interaction and drive operational and financial benefits for all parties. This new API is exclusive to Reconomy and will enable Midsoft users to seamlessly integrate with Reconomy’s technology from the point of order through to reconciliation and payment. Once a job is complete the information is rapidly and digitally fed back into Reconomy’s online portal where it can be securely accessed by the customer.

The two-way digital exchange of data between the systems will enable Reconomy’s service providers using Midsoft software to automate a number of traditionally laborious tasks such as accepting and inputting orders, route planning, allocating order numbers, providing proof of service and generating electronic tickets. The result is a faster more efficient process that helps both parties to reduce costs whilst improving data quality and service levels. Data is securely transferred with only Reconomy and its suppliers having access or control. Importantly there is no change of software or business process required by the service provider, they simply have to subscribe and add the ‘Reconomy API’ to their Midsoft system.

Commenting on the development Reconomy’s Chief Information Officer, Jody Fullman, said: “The ability to interact digitally with our supply chain is a key part of our technology roadmap and we welcome Midsoft’s proactive approach, enabling more waste managers to realise the operational and commercial benefits this innovation has to offer. Improved engagement with our supply chain is just one element of our digitisation strategy which continues to also focus improvement on our customers’ experience and internal service delivery.”

Andy Dyble, Managing Director at Midsoft, added: “We’re really excited about this exclusive partnership with Reconomy. A good proportion of their supply chain are already using our Midsoft software, but now this gives us the chance to add real value for others and drive a tangible benefit from being a Reconomy digitally-enabled supply chain partner. I’m sure there will be lots of interest and we look forward to enjoying great success together going forward”

The new API works alongside (or instead of) Reconomy’s own proprietary ePod platform, software and apps which are designed for suppliers that don’t currently use one of the main industry platforms. It is part of a broader digital supply chain development plan which will see a continuation of significant investment in API partnerships and Reconomy’s own platform.
