Philippines bans waste incinerators
The Philippine Government has approved a new Clean Air Act, which includes a total ban on incinerators.
Greenpeace today hailed the Philippine government’s approval of the act, as an international environmental milestone. “This decision sends out a very strong signal against the dumping of toxic technologies on developing countries like the Philippines”, said Greenpeace toxic campaigner Von Hernandez.
The precedent setting law signed by President Joseph Estrada makes the Philippines the first country in the world to approve a nation-wide ban on waste incinerators.
