Work to remove the remaining section of a container ship that became stranded off the Devon coast last January will begin in May.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency announced that measures will be put in place to prevent pollution as the remaining part of the stern of the MSC Napoli is removed from Lyme Bay.

Following its removal, the material will be shipped to Holland for recycling and a full underwater survey will be carried out to ensure the seabed is free of debris from the ship.

The MSC Napoli began to sink off the coast of Cornwall after it was damaged during a storm and was eventually deliberately beached in Lyme Bay after leaking oil and losing a number of its containers.
