Prescott calls for war on wind farm nimbys
Britain's former Deputy PM has urged Government to do more to stop a vocal minority from thwarting attempts to install wind turbines in the countryside.
Speaking at the British Wind Energy Association’s annual conference in Liverpool this week, John Prescott argued that the planning system as its stands gives too much power to nimbys and said Ministers must do more to ensure wind farms are allowed to be built as part of the national effort to move towards a low-carbon economy.
He said the people of Britain cannot let ‘squires and gentry’ concerned about their ‘chocolate box views’ stop them from meeting their moral obligation of producing more renewable energy.
