Proposal to dredge Niger river under dispute

There are mixed reactions in Nigeria to a proposal to dredge 578 km of the lower Niger river, to improve navigation between the delta region and upstream Niger state. Some communities are convinced of the economic benefits, while others fear it will damage the delta eco system, which is already severely impacted by the oil and gas industry.
