Florida will be the first US state to ferry children to school in hybrid buses, the first two of which were delivered last Friday.

Implementing a hybrid system in the buses improves energy efficiency by up to 70-100% and reduces emissions by 90%. Enova systems, the company behind the hybrid systems used, said that seventeen more vehicles are to serve school runs across the country as part of a project coordinated by US non-profit organisation Advanced Energy.

Mike Staran, Enova’s executive vice president, said: “Enova Systems’ unique Post Transmission System continues to offer a non-invasive solution to enter the hybrid vehicle market in either the retrofit or new vehicle segment. We are privileged to be partnered with IC Corp, the nation’s largest School Bus, in this groundbreaking effort.”
