Irish energy report reaps international acclaim

A group of Irish businessmen and scientists have won international praise for the work they have done investigating renewable energy in the country.

Paul Smith, of Eirgrid, Leslie Bryans, of Northern Ireland Electricity, and Mark O’Malley, of UCD, will be recognised by the American Utility Wind Integration Group later this month.

The organisation praised their “impressive input and leadership” in producing the All-Island Grid Study for Renewables Integration report.

Published in January, the report looked at grid integration of renewable electricity generation in Ireland and suggested how the country could move towards more sustainable energy generation.

Irish Energy Minister Eamon Ryan commented: “I am pleased to see that the study is now gaining international recognition and that team members are now recipients of a major US achievement award for their outstanding work in delivering the All-Island Grid Study.

“This shows the progress that we are making in turning Ireland into one of the leading countries in the world in developing our renewable energy resources.

“I congratulate Paul, Leslie and Mark on their success which is representative of the hard work and dedication shown by them and all those involved in the working group.”
