Energy saving adopted over fuel rise concerns

Homeowners in Northern Ireland are increasingly turning to energy saving measures as a means of saving money in the face of rising fuel costs.

The Northern Ireland Energy Authority (NIEA) has reported that calls concerning energy queries have doubled since this time last year.

Many of the callers cited energy prices as their main concern, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Nigel Brady, director of the NIEA, points to anxieties over fuel poverty as a main motivator, as well as the introduction of energy performance certificates.

“If we could make our housing stock more energy efficient and encourage people to use renewable technologies then we could reduce our reliance on fossil fuels like oil which are rocketing in price,” he said.

It was recently revealed in research conducted by Canon that over half of Irish workers admitted that their employers do not have an environmental policy.
