Task force launched for Dublin Bay

The Dublin Bay Task Force was inaugurated last week by the Irish minister for the environment, heritage and local government.

Described by John Gormley as one of the greatest resources available to the city, Dublin Bay is to be assessed for its potential as a sustainable source.

Mr Gormley explained that the task force will include members from all the “relevant interested bodies”, including environmental groups, port authorities, politicians and Dublin development organisations.

“The task force will look at a range of issues impacting on the Bay area in the short, medium and long-term, including climate change, flooding, amenity areas and the future of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ports,” he said.

He added: “The benefits flowing from the work of the task force could be enormous.”

A study conducted on behalf of Dublin city council has recommended that Dublin Port should be moved outside the city in order to achieve the greatest environmental and economic benefits.
